The final concert of Clayton Piano Festival’s second season will be a tribute to the endless resources of sound and expressive scope of the piano. An Orchestra of Oneexamines repertoire which was either composed for orchestra and later transcribed for the piano or music for orchestra which was originally conceived on the piano. The program takes you from Maurice Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin – a memorial to six of his fallen colleagues in WW I, to Liszt’s realization of an episode from Goethe’s Faust in Mephisto Walze No. 1 and his transcription of Richard Wagner’s passionate Liebestod from Tristan and Isolda. To complete the program will be one of the great masterworks of the Russian literature, Mussorgsky’s colorful and majestic Pictures at an Exhibition. Pianist Craig Ketter will be join by guest lecturer Randolph Foy, conductor of the Raleigh Civic Symphony who will be sharing insights about the works throughout the evening.
