From reveries of childhood and love to the darkest horrors composed for the piano.

Dreams & Nightmares brings listeners from the innocent to the horrific. Opening with Schumann’s simple, unpretentious and nostalgicKinderszenen, the program then moves to Scriabin’s terrifying “Black Mass” sonata, one of the darkest works in the piano repertoire. Liszt’s perennial favorite, the Liebestraume in A-flat, brings repose, with a classic romantic dream of love. The program closes with Ravel’sGaspard de la nuit, which depicts a water nymph luring a man to the depths of a lake, a corpse hanging from the gallows, and a goblin who haunts a madman in the night.
